Today is the first birthday of my friend Genevieve! Her party was yesterday and this is what I made her.
Look closely and you will find a G!
Happy Birthday Genevieve – I hope I still have this site when you are old enough to read and surf the web!
Watch out Plymouth! Have you seen these new signs!?
I was driving through town the other day, like I do all the time, and all of a sudden something jumped out at me on a part of Main Street where there aren’t usually many attractions. Well, that may just be my opinion. But regardless… NEW SIGN, NEW SIGN!!! HEYY, I DESIGNED THAT LOGO!!! I was so excited to see this. Later on that afternoon I grabbed a Kiskadee coffee with a few friends and walked to the new J.James Auctioneers & Appraisers to snap a photo! Check out that link to their website, looks like they’ll be starting auctions soon!
Here I am, Kiskadee coffee in hand under the beautiful sign! Speaking of, have you seen the winter Kiskadee sign? Painted by my dear friend Jackie Burns, with Allison Kathleen hand lettering. I can’t wait to collaborate with Jackie again!
Hello again January! It’s been over a week since the holidays have officially ended and I finally set some time aside to click through my photos. I’ll admit, sharing photos of my Christmas tree long after I’ve taken it down doesn’t even put me in the holiday spirit so I’m not quite sure what it will do for you. But I took them, and they’re pretty and well, these pictures make me miss my tree! So now my tree will have it’s own little place on the internet.
I got really crafty this year and made the majority of my decorations and the skirt! Just a friendly reminder, I LOVE COLOR. So yes, I used colored lights!! I should also mention that what I think added to the adorable factor was that my tree was shorter than me (about 3.5 feet short). Anyway, here it is, my first tree
I miss my little balsam fir.
Happy Day After Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!
On Thanksgiving Eve, and right before I headed out to enjoy the merriment, I got my first ever line of holiday cards posted to my facebook page! I AM SO EXCITED TO SHOW THEM OFF! I know, I know, I should put them on Etsy and all that fun stuff – but for now, this seemed the easiest way to share them and have you be able to share them too! SO please, head on over to Allison Kathleen Calligraphy & Design. While you’re there, like the page, check out the cards, check out my BRAND NEW {AK} Pinterest which is linked in my facebook, and have fun getting in the spirit of the holidays. If you’ve already been out shopping this morning, you’re crazy, but I think you already know that. Anyway, I can’t thank you enough for supporting my small business. I can’t wait to work on your greetings!!!
~AK
Every now and then I take a break from the computer and the indoors and head outside with my camera for some inspiration. I’m working on using the manual settings and then editing in photoshop. Here’s a look at some of my favorites from the past few days!
This post is dedicated to my mom since it’s her pretty yard and she let’s me work here whenever I want to!
Hello all! I’ll admit, I started this post 2 months ago when it was still summer. But alas, you kept me working more than ever and I was lovin’ it!! Aside from the hustle and bustle of design and calligraphy over wedding season, I was able to drive past the horse farm almost daily, visit Block Island, fish a little and by that I mean catch the littlest fish in the pond, attend Diana’s AMAZING wedding in Newport, and chill with Newport’s coolest kids. I also made it out many a time to see my favorite bands in the world: Jake Hill & Deep Creek, Lonesome Jukebox, & a special trip to Portland to see The Mallett Brothers Band!!!
August flew by as my mom sold my childhood home (future blog post on that in the works); she then moved into an adorable new home with an amazing garden ready to be enjoyed and captured by my camera. Lastly and what feels like forever ago, I visited one of the finest relaxation spots I’ve ever been, Lake George. Thank you everyone who made my summer so enjoyable. I’m looking forward to sharing lots more of the projects that I’ve gotten into over the past 6 months.
Hope you’re inspired by all the magic of fall
The second that Rachel mentioned her big 40th Birthday Bash, and super fun Old Crab Theme, I had so many ideas! I’m psyched that I had the opportunity to work with her and her fiancé Eric to design the invitation and lots of fun party decorations. The Old Crab made its way onto retro lollipops, cups, food signs, garbage/recycle bins, and even a popcorn machine. An amazing cake was made and decorated by a local friend Beth. As a final touch, the invitation was blown up and matted for friends to sign as a keepsake to remember the special event!
Now I just wanted to mention that Rachel is not an old crab at all. She happens to have a July birthday, and is therefore a Cancer. But she’s also beautiful, sweet, fun, and an absolute pleasure to work with. Rachel, thanks for having me be part of your very special birthday. I had a blast at your party and I’m looking forward to our next project together!!!!
When I found these photos in my email this morning, all I could think was WOW, I can’t believe I was part of this wedding! I went to college with Aimee & Norm and felt more than honored to address their invitation envelopes. Then they came to me with this totally unique idea of combining their wedding favor with their escort cards, all on a wine bottle!! SO COOL…They found these fancy wine tags online and all I had to do was the lettering!

Thanks again Aimee & Norm, I’m so happy for you!
Happy June 14th! Today I’m so excited to share photos from Jacki & Matt’s Wedding. You might recall I designed and lettered some things for Jacki’s Bridal Shower, which led to a variety of AK Calligraphy at the wedding! It was a few weeks before the special day and they came to me with a whole list of ideas – we met at Panera and it was wonderful. I LOVE IDEAS & SANDWICHES. Since the wedding in April, I’ve been more anxious to see the photos than anyone who attended the wedding (made up fact). Having known Jacki’s family for many years, I expected nothing less than a beautiful, fun & loving occasion. IT EVEN DOWNPOURED! But the only hint at rain in the photos below is the umbrella – what beauties!!
Pictured first is Jacki & her sister Krista, the Maid of Honor and one of my best friends! Beyond that you’ll see my lettering and design on place cards, family tree of marriages (the calligraphy is way too small to see but it is under each couples wedding photo), table #s that corresponded with pictures of the Bride & Groom in that year (so cute!), Mr. & Mrs. signs, and a full shot of the room at Indian Pond Country Club. Also, please read on below the images for more information about the amazingly talented Ciras Photography!
Jacki & Matt – you are a beautiful couple – thank you, thank you, thank you for having me be part of your wedding day in so many ways! ~AK

Thank you for providing these photos Heather. Great job capturing the whole day!
Over the past year I’ve developed an obsession for typography and with that, the details of every individual letter. I also frequent several artist’s blogs who, since January 1 of this year, have been hand lettering every day. So I know other people share my weird obsession.
Lisa Congdon & MaryKate McDevitt … you can check out their projects if you’d like
I’ve reallyyyy been wanting to start a lettering project of my own and just yesterday figured out what it would be! WAHOO. WATERCOLORS + ALPHABET = NEW PROJECT. THE LETTER PROJECT.
It will not be an every day thing – and I have no idea when I will get to another one – but when I do, it will be fun and I will post a photo. There are no rules but someday I will have a whooole alphabet of watercolored letters, and that excites me. For now you can enjoy A & K. I’m also working on my camera skills – any advice is more than welcome!
OK, have a wonderful weekend!!
Allison
